Is anyone else amazed at amount of homophobes on Yahoo?

Oh my goodness - if anyone has read the story about the school in Miss. canceling their prom rather then letting a same sex couple go - has anyone seen the comments around yahoo on that ? Yesterday I posted a Q about it and stated how it almost happened here in NS, Canada but the school was too afraid of parents to cancel and someone replied "That's because we're America. We don't back down like Canada" - Okay, so you take pride in what the school did ? You're trying to call the US a bunch of proud bigots ? But yes, some of the comments on the story are like : - I am sick to death of these "special individuals", with "special needs" keep ruining it for the rest of us who are healthy minded, law abiding individuals. Just say "NO" to this negative behavior, what is wrong with the truth? - Whether or not you approve of the behavior the homosexual couple DID ruin the prom for everyone else. Making a stand is fine until innocent people are harmed and in this case that's what happened. -I prefer not to mingle with women dressed in mens clothing. It gives me the creeps. People who do not follow basic societal norms are not someone I wish to have a fun evening with. I don't think a man in a womans dress is fun to look at. A woman in a mans tuvedo is nauseating. If you can't play by the rules, call the darn thing off. Don't homosexual people have their own clubs where they can go so they don't disgust the majority? -Now she can go and wear that Tux where ever she wants... except the prom. I for one resent alternative lifestyle people trying to force people that don't want them to accept them. We don't want to see your freak show. Go hang out with the other lesbians at the lesbian prom and leave the other people alone. Quit trying to force the issue. Now they all suffer equally. No one goes to the prom. And the list gos on. If you feel like getting riled up today, here's the story http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_lesbian_pr… and the comments are down the bottom. Honestly they made my jaw drop - I'm in total awe over some of these idiots.

Public Comments

  1. I wouldnt go so far as to say that they are all homophobes. The fact is that homosexual bonds are still frowned down upon in LOTS of places especially were there are more conservative people living. Homosexuality is not a societal norm and it may never be. You cant force everybody to agree with homosexual relations.
  2. Nothing compared to the real world. Chill.
  3. Being a lesbian who not only frequents this site, but stays on top of the "goings on" in our news and reading the many comments that people write, no I'm not. I can't even say I'm angered by it anymore, maybe deeply saddened. Most of the people who write that garbage, don't even know WHAT their opinion is. They think they are supposed to be hateful and just write to write. These people don't understand that gay people are a part of their every day life. Their doctors, teachers, lawyers, school counselors...the list goes on and on.
  4. I just ignore it. If they try to bash us, then they arnt worth my time.
  5. Yahoo only shows you a slice of society. Relatively speaking there are just as many homophobic people here as there is anywhere else. While I agree that the story about the prom is disheartening, in terms of constitutional rights, I don't understand why they felt the had to ask anyone about who to bring or what they were going to wear at the prom! All they had to do was just go to the prom! They did not have to make an announcement. Even though they (the girls) did make an announcement, the school is NOT a private institution and therefore can not bar anyone one from from attending such a public affair. People on both sides of this issue need to get their act together.
  6. No it doesn't surprise me, people aren't much better than they used to be. It does anger me a lot, but what can you do? The more you push people to accept something they don't want to, the more they will fight you against it.
  7. And this is what happens when you give kids access to the internet without parental guidance. They run amok and think they're being sly because they're anonymous. Until I run their IP address' and tell them in an e-mail their name, address and how many bowel movements they make a day do they finally get the fucking point that I ain't playing.
  8. Tell me about it. Try reading some of Zellpari's comments, you'll want to kill him. I do.
  9. Amazed certainly isn't the word I would use. Im just disgusted.
