What kinds of things could I ask for, for my baby shower?

Since this is my first child I am wondering what is appropriate to ask for, for a baby shower. Don't you give a list or something? Do you just get clothes or other things too?

  1. You don't 'ask' for things...you register for them, to give people ideas of what to buy you for your shower. Nobody is 'required' to buy you anything.
  2. You can go to a store and make a baby registry up so that people know what you are wanting to get. I found that one of the most important things we got was the thing you stick up the babies nose to suck out the snot. Very useful when your baby gets their first cold. Clothes are ok but they grow so fast that you don't really need a crap load of them. Nursing blankets are great as well as diapers and formula. Babies gotta eat. Congrats on your child and enjoy.
  3. It's considered rude to write up a list, but you could register at nearby stores for things that you like or need. You can also let the hostess know if there are specific things you are hoping for, or if any guests call you to ask what you'd like. Be sure to ask for a mixture of big and little items. For instance, you could say, "Well, I have a crib but I still need a stroller and a carseat. I have some clothes, but I'm hoping to get some of the next size, or I'd love gift certificates to the grocery store because I'm worried about affording formula." If there are specific clothes you want, it's okay to tell people that, but try to do it in a way that isn't demanding. Like "I'm so excited to have a little girl! I hope I get some dresses and frilly things!" You could also ask for healthy and safety items (like a thermometer), diapers, a camera (gotta capture all those big baby moments!), baby room furniture like a changing table, rocking chair, or dresser, etc.
  4. Fill out a gift registry at a store you like. I believe most stores have them. Then put everything you would need for a baby from diapers and pacifiers to car seat and a crib.
  5. girl this is the time that you get to ask for anything and EVERYTHING your little heart desires. go to babiesrus if you have one around you and they will give you a hand held scanner. put EVERYTHING you will need soap lotion diapers wipes towels bathtub baby gates crib bedding pacifiers bottles formula and/or breast pump clothes socks hats and boggins booties toys receiving blankets you'll probably need a lot! diaper bag hangers glider dresser mattress changing pad car seat stroller car seat base and extra base if you have 2 cars my boyfriend and i were in babies r us for about 2 hours lol we went through and looked at all the stuff they had and added everything we thought we would possibly need. it was fun! we ended up getting about 2 months worth of diapers and wipes, a travel system, tons of soap and shampoo and lotion, towels and washclothes to last a lifetime, a baby bathtub, hangers, clothes, bedding, a crib, a changing table and pad, wipe warmer and portable wipe warmer, breast pump, bottles, cleaning supplies. and TONS of other stuff i cant remember.
  6. So you can either give a list out to people or go to a store that sells baby stuff and make a registry. You can put clothes, diapers, bassinet, diaper cream and wipes, bibs, blankets, etc. I would do a good combination of small items and big items. That way everybody can afford things on your list. Put anything down that you need except items like a baby crib, changing table, dresser, car seat. All of those items you need to get yourself. Congratulations and good luck.
  7. Do a baby registry at like babies r us or target. Don't write on your invitation what you want and need. I'm not saying you were going to do that but one of my friends did that for her shower and I couldn't believe the nerve some people have. I would be happy with anything I got for my shower, I just did a registry so people that don't have children could have an idea. Remember to include all price ranges in you registry also. Good Luck :)
  8. I registered for anything and everything. I got a lot of clothes and diapers but I also got some other care items like a baby tub, soap, lotion, washcloths, bottles, bibs, and a kit with a thermometer and medicine spoons. You'll mostly get small things like that at your shower but every little bit helps, especially all those diapers. That way you can save up to buy the bigger things like a crib and car seat. It's a good idea to register for those bigger items anyway (even though its doubtful anyone will buy them for you) because some stores give you a discount on any items left on your registry. Not everyone who bought me gifts adhered to my registries but that was fine.
  9. Go to babiesrus.com they have a printable list of things to register for. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and registered a couple days ago. I asked for thinks like diapers, wipes, car seat accesseries, nursery decour, bottles, bath stuff, infant toys, a few big things like a stroller, a highchair, a pack and play, a babies first aid kit, nail clippers, books, baby Einstein DVDs... Whatever you want. The lady that was helping us said not to register for clothes, the stock changes to much, people have a hard time finding it and would just rather pick out their own. In my expirence going to other people's showers, they did get a lot of clothes but also some practical things as well. Whenever I buy for a shower I use a registery an pick out a theme. Sometimes I'll get a bunch of bath stuff- soap, toys, lotion ect or I'll go the diaper route and get diapers, wipes and diaper rash cream. I don't know about my own shower yet! ;)
  10. Nothing on THIS list! LOL http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/parenting/a-crystal-pacifier-7-ridiculous-parenting-products-2071432/#photoViewer=1,
  11. For your baby shower, go and register--Babies R Us is popular. Once registered, where you are registered can be included at the bottom of the invite. When you go, it's an opportunity for you to put things on there you think you'll need and things that you may want for the baby--big or small. I would suggest making a list at home before going of things that you'd like to put on there just to get you started because it can be overwhelming. It's always a good idea to put a range of items and prices because people sometimes do pool money together to get bigger, more expensive things. Some things to consider putting on your registry... * Crib * Car seat * Stroller * High chair * Mattress pads * Crib accessories (sheets, blankets, mobile, decor, etc...) * Baby room decor * Baby bottles * Nipples * Pacifiers * Bibs * Receiving blankets * Onesies * Baby toys * Baby swing * Bath accessories (tub, lotions, shampoos, etc...) * Boppy pillow * Baby monitor * Hangers * Baby safety stuff (outlet plugs, cabinet locks, etc...) * Diapers * Baby wipes * Thermometer * Baby nail clippers * Nasal aspirator * Brush and comb set * Washclothes * Baby swing * Books, dvd's Here is a checklist of suggestions....http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=3200390 It's a lot of stuff, but a lot of it costs very little. I know that when I go to a baby shower, I have a tendency to pick a theme and try to buy out as much as I can from that theme. So, if I choose to get all the baby feeding stuff, I'll get bottles and nipples and drying rack and bottle brush and stuff.
  12. The most graceful thing to do would be to not ask for *anything* --- people know what baby showers are all about. I don't think it is very tasteful to have a list/registry. The people close to you will hopefully know you well enough to be able to choose something lovely and appropriate!
