Is it illegal to put a still shot of a movie on my website?
I'm planning on creating a movie review blog. I was going to make a "top 10" movie list. For each post, am I allowed to include a still picture of a scene from the specific movie? Or is this considered copyright infringement?
Public Comments
- yes . it is copyrighted .
- yes that still would be a part of the movie which in turn is still illegal
- You would need permission to include the picture as it is copyrighted material.
- I believe you can. There is a "fair use" provision in the copyright law that allows some limited use of copyrighted materials without permission. This article about fair use says "Examples of fair use of copyrighted materials include quotation of excerpts in a review or critique, or copying of a small part of a work by a teacher or student to illustrate a lesson." It seems to me that a single frame of a movie would come under this. You might want to ask a lawyer to be sure. http://www-sul.stanford.edu/cpyright.html
