Looking for "to do list software"?

I am looking for a "free" To Do List / task list software which can be used in form of desktop gadget. I tried Google desktops gadget but I dont want that sidebar.(Using windows XP) I Want an offline not an Online list.. also I want one which can be used as a desktop gadget.

1. if you got a gmail account, it comes with a basic to-do list. it also works on cell phones, the Google calendar and in the iGoogle page.
