What legal action can be taken against a website that won't stop spamming you?
I keep getting spammed by dating websites targeted at married people who want to have affairs. I find the practice absolutely disgusting, and have emailed them telling them to remove my name from their mailing lists. If they don't, what type of legal action can I take against them? Thanks for any help. This is not a first time thing, I've been getting lots of spam from these sites for over a year. I do filter it, can't block it because Yahoo doesn't offer a block option. I don't know how they got my email address. I NEVER give it to an adult website unless I'm subscribed and the privacy policy says they don't give or sell it for any reason whatsoever. Obviously I'm not subscribed to these sites, never have been, never would be. If I was then I wouldn't be complaining about them. No, I'm not trying to sue them "for offending me." I asked about legal action. Anything legal that can be done to stop them, not necessarily suing them or anybody.

- LOL - what, you want financial compensation for receiving spam? Block them - report them as spam and you will not get any more. If you do get them, delete them. There is nothing illegal going on here and there is no action for you to take.
- None. First, how did they get your address in the first place? Hmmmmmmm.... Second, you can't sue because you haven't suffered a "loss". Being offended is not legally actionable. Hell...people like you offend me, but you don't see me suing over it do you? Third, even if you COULD, you'd spend tens of thousands in legal fees over something this minor? Fourth, just delete the damn email and move on.
- Some internet servers have won cases against spammers because their spam sits on their physical servers and is taking up their space. I don't believe you have legal standing to sue. At some point in the future, the laws may catch up to the internet and we may have a similar law as we have for phone communication in the "do not call" registry. Until that time, I doubt if you have any real case. However, hiring an attorney to send them a letter(if you can find their "home office") and telling them to cease and desist may frighten them into making sure that no more emails come to your address. 3 things I can think of that could go wrong with that strategy would be: 1) It wouldn't scare them and they continue sending unwanted emails to you; 2) Hiring a lawyer for a futile attempt such as this is too expensive; 3) They may ignore the letter knowing there is nothing legally behind it and then sell your email address to a thousand other spammers thus creating more havoc for you. whale
- One time i got this book from reader digest it just come in the mail. I didn't ask for it or anything they just send it, the next thing i knew they were billing me well i didn't do anything at first then here come another bill, so that time i send a letter to them saying, i did not ask your company to send me anything you send the book to me with out my ok or saying i would pay for it! i also toll them i was not going to pay money out to send the book back if they wanted it they could come in get it. I also toll them if i got another bill from them they would here from my lawyer. never heard a other word from them, and this has been at less 10 to 15 yrs ago. So try telling this company if they don't want to here from your lawyer they had better stop. It want hurt to try this good luck...
- You can legally create a filter that sends this directly to your trash instead of your inbox.
