Why do so many poor people support Republicans who serve the top 1% only, and other American curiosities?
When it is so obvious that our two party system (and corresponding Media outlets like FOX NEWS) are a scam designed to obfuscate the real doings of our govt; when democrats and liberals both serve their rich masters and make laws based on how much they are paid; when it is painfully obvious that our govt serves big business, how are average citizens RAGING over "their" party's retarted "talking points"? Most brutally stupid: Why do so many minimally educated, working class mid-Americans champion, and swallow without doubt or question, the party line of the Republicans? The Republican party is neither "small govt" nor "conservative" in any way. They work SOLEY to protect the upper 1% of American earners who have DECIMATED middle America, closed factories so that they could get richer by making things in China, outsourced your jobs, foreclosed on your homes, and lied every inch of the way.... WHY are the most rabid supporters and largest voter blocks for Republican votes from poor people? Can you not see that your interests haven't been met in years? Or do you not research the ACTUAL laws passed by your candidate (just focusing on the baloney he sells you about gays and taxes?) The Democrats are just as corrupt, btw, but usually their voters generally benefit (like Union workers, etc...) from this party. And also, isn't it time to throw ALL the bums out, end special priviledges like cadillac health plans, and make campaign contributions and "careers" in Congress ILLEGAL? Let's have a govt full of people who have REAL jobs and consider it a priviledge to serve the people, not an entitlement! Dyin for REAL answers, not rants, and real suggestions on how to take back our country (not from the gays or the blacks or the atheists, but from the overfluffed BUMS who are destroying our constitution and our country with every stroke of the pen while laughing their way to the bank!) Free Tibet: Thanks for the insightful answer, but it really leaves me wondering: haven't we seen, time and time again, that Crony Capitalism is precisely what the Republicans practice? Haven't we seen-in both parties!-major financial firms putting their people in gov't positions, who then remove restrictions on the type of scam perpetrated by Goldman Sachs? While I agree that our gov't is out of control (did you see the SB 510 "Food and Safety" Act-terrifying), there is more than big govt to blame for society's ills. A purely capitalist system-with no regulation-basically allows the super-rich to exploit the poor. Is it not fallicy to cling to a thing that allows you to be exploited? And notice, with the bills passed that REALLY change our country, such as SB 510, there is LITTLE partisan bickering. Both sides sign on to these things, which are hardly reported. All that is reported are the few "talking point" issues. That seems sinister to me. Individualism is a beautiful thing, thoug

- Isn't the Tea Party based on "throwing the bums out"?
- Read dumbing us down by John Taylor Gatto, then maybe you'll understand the common person a little bit more.
- Isn't the whole Republicans for the rich and Democrats for the poor just a myth anyways.Take a look on how some of the parties started.Democrats certainly wasn't always the most moralist type of party.A lot of Southern Democrats was in favor of some very bad things in this countries history.
- People who vote Republican respect Capitalism and Democracy and everything that it entails, including the bad things that could come with Republicanism/Conservativism. They know that we are not our brothers keeper no matter what and they have enough pride to know that even when they're poor they don't want another man paying for them. It's a testament to the fact that conservatives are willing to stand for the individual even if they may not directly benefit because they have respect for success and hard working people. It's better to have a thousand families in poverty than a million. The corruption in our government is caused by a great many things including regulation and big government. Crony capitalism and corporatism are not Capitalism! I'd like the idea of having people with real jobs as senators and such but good luck. I'd definitely like politicians to take a pay cut. Our original politicians were lawyers (real lawyers not politicians with J.D.'s, bankers, farmers, etc. Not career politicians. I could go on but you get it. Most of this "corruption" is caused by the governments ability to control business. Don't blame the businesses for asking for protection or favors, blame the government for having favors to give. Yes Democrats benefit more because well, they vote for us to be a welfare state? Or they are so altruistic that they vote themselves entitlement or benefits? The idea that Democrats represent the poor is wrong, they USE the poor, that's all.
- The system is broken. Unfortunately the people who gravitate to politics are many times people who crave power. They will do anything to maintain power, including selling out our nation. The problem with our country has nothing to do with left vs. right, it has more to do with campaign finance, lobbyists, and special interests. Both sides of our political system (republicans and democrats BOTH) are beholden to corporations, special interest groups, and the lobbyists. They are not beholden to "we the people" any longer. That is all a charade. It's all about getting into office, and then getting reelected in order to maintain power. They do this by raising money to fund their campaigns. The person with the most money usually wins. Incumbents on average end up raising >5 times as much money as challengers, which is why 90+% of them get reelected and nothing ever changes. In 2008, Congress had a 13% approval rating headed into the November elections... and yet 93% of them got reelected. Why? Challengers usually get money only from "we the people" because they are not in power yet. The incumbents get money from the special interests and corporations in exchange for political favors in the form of government contracts, tax breaks and law bending. There are huge problems with our political system. It doesn't matter who we vote in, nothing will ever change unless we address these problems. There is a great video explains some of the major problems that must be fixed in order to return power back to "we the people"... Every American should watch this video... http://www.ourcaucus.com/Article1.html
- As long as the GOP continues to persecute gays, blacks, and women, as long as they fight immigration tooth and nail, as long as they ensure your right to own 17 different hand guns. Than they will continue to get the support of all the idiots out there.
