I am considering starting a business planning children's birthday parties?

I'm a mom, and I'm also a born entertainer, and I have been told many times that I should go into business planning parties. Some people aren't creative. Some people don't have time to look for things. But everyone wants their child to have a fun, memorable birthday, right? i was thinking i could help parents decide on a theme, acquire party favors and decorations ( within the parent's budget, which we would set, or course) assemble favor bags, make invitations ( something I am VERY good at!) and help set up the home or venue and line up entertainment. Would you pay someone to arrange your child's party? I have photo documentation of the parties i've thrown for my own children, with the beautiful cakes I made myself, and the gorgeous decorations, the delicious spread of food. How much is a fair price for my fee? I was thinking for a party with ten children my fee would be $100 on top of supplies. I have a food handlers permit and childcare permit. input? you would be surprised how many people are that lazy. i have worked for a private party planning company in the past, and gained a lot of skill there. I was hoping to take this in a more fantasy-themed direction. You know, Fairy-princess complete with Princess, Pirate themed , Dr. Seus, old west, Vintage circus, ect.

  1. Sorry, I just have to ask: Who is so lazy that they can't make a trip to the party supply store for some decorations, and to the grocery store for a cake? Not trying to be rude...sorry.
  2. i personally couldn't think of anything worse, i love planning my children's parties, and i'm sure many parents think its a parental thing to do. Its not like a wedding planner, i think its pretty pointless to hire someone to organise something that happens practically every year. i personally wouldn't hire anyone to organise MY child's birthday party. just because your good at something doesn't mean you should get a job doing it, i'm pretty good at sex am i a porn star ? no, i have always been a brilliant cook and baker, am i chef ? no. to your additional details : what kind of mother would i be if i couldn't think of these things myself, seriously planning a child's birthday party isn't a big task, i wouldn't need to hire assistance, and neither would any other parents i know.
  3. Yikes. Im not willing to pay for it, especially that.
  4. I personally wouldn't, just because that's the best part of your kid having a party..planning and such. But i'm sure there will be some who would inquire your services. The only thing i've had somewhat of an issue in is dealing with my winter baby parties.I don't like having parties at my house, because I don't like people at my house, so venues in the winter time can be a bit difficult to find (as opposed to summer where we can just have it at a park)
  5. It's worth a try, I guess. There are probably some upper-middle-class folks who would be interested in paying for such a service. I guess the fee would vary, depending on your material costs, number of kids, if it's a rented venue or an at-home party, favors, etc. You might have to establish a policy that you and the party-renters would have to have an estimate meeting beforehand to agree upon a price for the party they've got in mind.
  6. I guess it could work for the Rich folks. But I like planning my child birthday parties..
  7. That's a wonderful idea. I just watched an episode of Judge Karen and this lady was a childen's party princess. All she did was show up at the party(dressed as different charectors) and entertain the kids for 3 hours. Her fee was $500!!!! You're planning on offering waaay more services than she was. Oh! She also had her clients to sign a contract stating the date and time frame she would appear, that way she could set party dates back to back. She was in court because the man who had hired her started the party late, but she had for filled her contract obligations and gotten there earlier. She also helped him get set up which isn't even part of her job, but then he got mad because she had to leave and go to her next party. But she won the case because they had that signed contract for the allotted time frame. So make sure you get some type of contract drawn up by and attorney or paralegal might be able to. Good Luck!
  8. I don't know anyone who would pay for this, but I don't personally know any rich people. I'm sure there are some out there though. Anyone who isn't rich isn't going to be so worried about impressing the other adults with a Vintage Circus themed party.
  9. I wouldn't pay for it. I actually enjoy planning my kids birthday parties. It's part of the fun of having kids. Plus adding an additional $100 on top of everything else just seems like a waste of money to me. I'm not trying to be rude, I just don't know anyone who would want to spend their money that way. Good luck just the same. If you love that kind of stuff you might want to consider getting into wedding planning or planning other types of celebrations. It pays significantly more and I know a lot of people use wedding planners regardless of income.
  10. Personally I would not, but I don't think a child needs that fancy a party and I am creative enough to do what I think is needed, not to mention my budget is never enough for that. (that's me though) I know there are plenty of people out there that would have the budget and would want to spoil their child to that degree...you need to do some local market research and see if there is enough need for it in your area. Good Luck, sounds like a lot of fun.
