Who decides the list order of towns on road signs?
Well, I went to the A3 at Hindhead. Right turn said London then Guilford underneath (guilford was closer) To the left was Petersfield first then Portsmouth (petersfield was closer). Distance or size seemed not to matter. I can only think it's to do with the respective councils?

- The nearest should be first, failing that it will be the most popular destination on top.
- Art Beamer of Andover, MD is the guy in charge of town order on road signs. Art has been doing this job for 37 years. Be sure and ask him about his grandkids.
- the closest is at the bottom of the sign...it is as if you are driving up the signpost.
- not sure who decides the order, but London will almost always be first since it's a popular city to visit
- the road signs are usually by distance. the furthest away is usually at the top. when they're listed like this the distance is usually in miles next to them.
