What mailing list software do successful professional websites use? ?

I'm a musician and I need some sort of mailing list software. I've been trying to find out what software my favorite artists and people of interest use by looking closely and carefully at the bottoms of emails and where the emails have been sent from, but so far I've had no luck discovering trails that could lead me to the gold. Could you help me? Do you know any mailing list softwares used by successful artists? Thanks in advance.
